Judging by the tent city, there’s either a small political protest going on, or it’s an unseasonably warm, late-winter weekend and everyone’s realised it. I don’t even bother checking with reception before I turn around and head away from the crowded beachside campsite, somewhere not far from Ballina. But that’s one of the simple pleasures of a campervan – you can just do that, turn around and find somewhere else to stay. So it’s what I do.
