Horizon Motorhomes have a fantastic team of valued employees who make the brand the success it is today. No exception to this is production manager, Melissa Robbins. Formerly from the U.S, Mel joined the team last year and has been making massive strides for Horizon and her career since then.
Mel is responsible for improved build processes and thorough quality checks of Horizon’s hand-built motorhomes. The production changes she has recently made will potentially reduce build time and boost the annual production rate by quite a significant amount. The plant layout changes, new capital equipment purchases and process improvements she has implemented will all increase efficiency and allow the rest of the highly skilled team to be utilised more effectively. With more than 25 years’ experience in the manufacturing industry, past experiences of managing teams of up to 120 people and a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) Mel is a real asset to the expanding team.
“I like the local aspect and the importance we put on the quality of the product.” Says Mel on why she enjoys working at Horizon Motorhomes.
No stranger to working in a male-dominated industry Mel was one of the first women on the assembly line at Mitsubishi many years ago. Mel stated that “I have learned from all of my experiences and think that, regardless of gender, respecting people is a key to success.”
In her spare time, Mel loves taking advantage of the wonderful beaches our area has on offer with her partner and Golden Retriever, Ellie. “I love living on the beach and the small town feel of the area that promotes supporting locals. I especially like a 10-minute commute to work.”
International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on the 8th of March and is a day to reflect on the important contributions women make in the workplace and beyond. If you want to learn more about Horizon’s team or the build process you can contact us here.
